Third person action adventure games seem to have taken over the PS3 these days. Dante’s Inferno, which will be released on February 9, 2010, is about an Italian mercenary who single handily hacks his way though hell in order to save his beloved wife. Dante’s story is full of action, anger and bravery. This game can be described as being “non-stop” and “blood-lustful”. Although many gamers are eager to get their hands on this game, how will Dante’s scythe stand up against the blades of the mighty God of War?

God of War 3 is due for release on March 16, 2010, and if you’ve played the first 2, you know very well that there is absolutely NOTHING that can stand in this mad cow’s path. I still remember when I played GOW for the very first time, I had a hard time putting down the controller. The action was intense and the graphics were superb. But what really made the game extra special was the story that drove behind it. There were times I’d smash the buttons on my controller extra hard during action sequences because I’d gotten too emotional with the story. I could really feel this god’s anger and I must admit, the producers and designers did a really good job.

But if you were to choose one of these to get, which one should you choose? Lets take a look at both games in detail:

Graphics

The graphics for both games is superb. Both games come with awesome cinematic scenes and the game screens on both games are really good. For those of you who played previous GOW games, you know how much detail there are in every area. As a matter of fact, the amount of area that Kratos can explore is 4 times that of the original areas found in GOW2. One really awesome upgrade is the High Dynamic Range Lighting (HDRL) technology which will cause players to feel a sharp brightness when Kratos exits a dark area and enters a sunlit area.

As for Dante’s Inferno, dynamic areas and crisp cinematic is what makes the game stand out. However, although the scenes are eye catching, they are still lacking when compared with GOW3. If you look closely, you can see some bumpy edges. Weapons, monsters and the general lighting is simply not as up to par with the mighty GOW. Therefore, God of War 3 is definitely the better choice here.

Gameplay

The gameplay for both games is what really draws a line between these two. The god of war series surely has an awesome reputation for action sequences and combo attacks. However, Dante is in for a good battle because this Italian mercenary can pull off air combos, unleash sequenced combos, perform holy power magic and even tame the creatures that he’s up against with. Whatever the God of War can do, Dante can pull off similar stunts just as good if not better. Watch the following video and see Dante in action:

Kratos, however, will not let this battle end easy. First, Kratos has a larger variety of different weapons. His most famous being the Blades of Athena . New weapons include the Cestus, a pair of powerful metal gauntlets with devastating strength which he can use to pound his enemies when they are in large groups. Kratos also has new moves where he can grapple with enemies and launch explosive wall-to-ground attacks. He can now ride of the creatures in the game and manipulate against their will. Brutal combat, intricate puzzles and exploration of awe-inspiring worlds is definitely what you can expect from GOW3. Check out this gameplay video of Kratos fighting in GOW3:

Storyline

Although game play experience is the most important aspect in any game, the storyline of the game adds an emotional factor that can make each game that much more interesting. When we compare the story of Dante versus the story of Kratos, we can certainly see similarities, but most importantly, what these 2 guys have in common is the anger which drives them to fight the way they do. For Dante, it’s his wife that he needs to rescue and for Kratos, it’s the revenge on the gods for their betrayal and lies. Both stories certainly has a lot of emotions involved and this really depends on your personal preference to judge.

Both games certainly has a lot of simularies and yet, lots of differences that makes each one unique. Do you like God of War 3 or Dante’s Inferno? Which one are you going to try?
